During a multi-day commercial vehicle driver inspection operation in Oregon in July, 620 inspections resulted in placing 27 percent of drivers out of service for safety violations.

This was up slightly from the 26 percent average for a similar exercise earlier in the year and a 26 percent driver out-of-service rate for 2010, the Oregon Department of Transportation said.

The national driver out-of-service rate is about 6 percent. Oregon’s out-of-service rate is higher than the national average because more violations are found during routine and special inspection events, ODOT said.
