Listen: Channel One-Nine Special from Over the Road — Mechanics

Previously on Over the Road:

The Channel One-Nine Special set of mini-episodes in the Over the Road podcast series attempts to provide answers to questions about trucking from listeners inside and outside the business, by consulting with the professionals. For the fourth special, a lightning round of Q&A from motorist listeners about the basics of the truck itself — questions on engine brakes, gears, idling, uphill speed (and lack thereof) and plenty more.

Four-decade owner-op veteran Ingrid Brown answers most, with an assist from a few others. Take a listen:

The Over the Road podcast, a co-production of Overdrive and PRX’s Radiotopia podcast network, resumes Thursday, April 16, with “Back Home.” Over the Road contributing producer Lacy Roberts heads home to Montana to explore her family’s three-generation history in trucking. The visit illustrates how the stresses and peculiarities of trucking have shaped those who run the roads and those back home. Stay tuned.
