Christine Treviranus 2 2017 03 15 16 02Overdrive’s Most Beautiful finalist Christine Treviranus of Hawthorne, Wisconsin, wanted to be a truck driver for as long as she could remember. “My dad was a truck driver, and ever since I can remember I said I wanted to be a truck driver … but then I met my husband and we had five kids.”

She and her truck driver husband decided it wasn’t feasible for her to go out on the road while their children were still young. But in 2011, it was time to get back to her career goals. Her only job to date had been raising children, and she hadn’t had any formal schooling since high school. She contacted the State of Wisconsin to ask for financial help with her trucking school tuition. “The state helped me out because I hadn’t worked [a job],” and it had funds available for “people that had over a certain number of kids.”

So she got her CDL and, “I’ve been trucking ever since and having a ball,” she says. Though she started out as a company driver, she now is leased on with Wayne Transport, hauling chemicals and blasting agents.

She and her husband own three trucks. She drives solo most of the time but teams up with her husband in their sleeper cab 2012 Peterbilt 389 in the winter. When she bought her truck, the 1985 Peterbilt 359, it was “in good shape but original, so it looked its age. I drove it for a full year and then just last winter I took it to a shop and redid it for me.”

Treviranus loves that women are more accepted by the industry every day. “At one time this was considered a man’s job,” she says, “but women are stepping in and working side by side and doing just as well.”
