Deerfield Police said they impounded this truck and trailer following the arrest of driver Gary Robbins.(Deerfield Police photo)A truck driver was arrested and charged last week with operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs after driving non-stop from Seattle, Wash., to Deerfield, Mass.
The Deerfield Police Department said in a post on its Facebook page the driver admitted to having used crystal meth, LSD and cocaine. According to DPD police reports, the driver was Gary Robbins, a resident of Homer, Alaska. The trip from Seattle to Deerfield would take some 44 hours to cover the 2,985 miles, according to Google Maps.
About noon on Tuesday, March 28, Deerfield Police officers responded to a call about a “despondent truck driver” at the Circle K. In the post on their Facebook page, police said the man had locked himself out of his truck and was acting “combative and showing signs of drug use” when police arrived. Deerfield Police added that it appeared Robbins didn’t sleep throughout the entirety of his cross-country trip.
After a struggle, officers took the man to the Baystate Franklin Medical Center and impounded the truck and trailer.
Deerfield is located in west-central Massachusetts north of Springfield along I-91.
