I-10 reopens in Florida after post-Hurricane closures

Update, Friday, Oct. 12, 8 a.m.: Gov. Rick Scott on Twitter late Thursday announced that I-10 has reopened in both directions. The original story about the road’s closure is below. 

Update – Thursday, Oct. 11, 3:30 p.m. CDT: I-10 in the Florida panhandle remains closed between milemarkers 85 and 160 heading eastbound. Florida 511 shows the westbound lanes have reopened.

Several truck stops remain closed Thursday afternoon as well. The Love’s Travel Stops location in Macon, Georgia, is completely closed, while locations in Cottondale and Mossy Head, Florida, are partially open accepting cash only. The Love’s in Tifton, Georgia is partially open but has no running water.

Seven Pilot Flying J locations are closed, including Dothan, Alabama; Marianna, Midway and Quincy, Florida; and Albany, Tifton and Vienna, Georgia.

The TA-Petro location in Marianna, Florida, remains closed.

Update – Thursday, Oct. 11, 8 a.m. CDT: According to Florida 511, all eastbound lanes of I-10 are closed from milemarker 85 to the Apalachicola River at milemarker 160, and all westbound lanes are closed from the Apalachicola River to milemarker 120.

Portions of I-10 in the Florida panhandle are closed Wednesday, and a number of truck stops in or near the path of Hurricane Michael are closed as the storm moves through the panhandle and into southeast Alabama and southwest Georgia.

The Florida Department of Transportation has not officially closed I-10 as of 3:30 p.m. Central Wednesday, but according to Florida 511, sections of the interstate are blocked by downed trees and other debris.

Additionally, in Georgia, DOT officials will close two bridges Wednesday evening along U.S. Highway 17. The Talmadge Memorial Bridge in Savannah will close at 9 p.m. Wednesday, and the Sidney Lanier Bridge near Brunswick will close at 6 p.m.

Love’s Travel Stops, TA-Petro and Pilot Flying J each announced closures Wednesday. Two Love’s locations in Cottondale, Florida, and Mossy Head, Florida, are fully closed, and the Love’s location in Ozark, Alabama, has suspended roadside assistance services.
