Ss RedwinesI met the Redwines of Nederland, Texas, at the Great American Trucking Show last year by the back bumper of Jerry Redwine’s prize-winning 2007 Peterbilt 378 tri-axle dump (pictured). The labor of love is a hardworking truck in Redwine construction business. Powered by a Caterpillar C13 boosted to 600 hp and an Eaton 8 LL off-road transmission, the tri-axle main unit is evidence of a “bad habit” the young Redwine inherited from his father and grandfather of keeping his equipment clean and pristinely polished, even when hauling 15-20 daily loads of dirt and other materials from Redwine pits.

“A lot of people give me a hard time for keeping it so clean,” he says, “but hey, it pays off.” Redwine customized his PTO and other hydraulic controls, for both bed and pup trailer, by utilizing electric rocker switches in a customized dash, among other cab alterations.

The unit brought off-road toughness to the 2010 Custom Rigs Pride & Polish truck beauty competition held in late August 2010 in conjunction with the Great American Trucking Show. The triaxle with Rogers dump body and 2007 Palmer trailer, with a dumping bed by Ox Bodies. The unit bagged 3rd Place in the Specialty Working Combo class at the Dallas event and was featured in the most recent edition of Severe Service magazine, an off-road truck equipment and maintenance supplement to Overdrive.
