Spot freight jumps in April

Spot market freight availability increased by 291 percent in April compared to the same month in 2009, according to TransCore’s North American Freight Index.

Load volume was nearly 25 percent higher than in March, more than double the average month-over-month increase for this season. April’s spot freight volume was the highest in any single month since November 2005, which was a record year for spot market freight.

Brokers, 3PLs, carriers and owner-operators in North America are on track to list more than 60 million loads and trucks this year across a variety of services feeding TransCore’s DAT Network.

TransCore says that as a result of this high volume, its North American Freight Index is representative of the ups and downs in spot market freight availability throughout the United States and Canada.
