At the Eddie Deen’s Ranch venue adjacent to the Dallas Convention Center, trucker-songwriter Tony Justice and the TruckerNation.org group presented a check for $5,000 to Sherri Pomeroy, wife of the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, the site of a mass shooting in November that killed 26 people and injured scores of others.

Accepting the check midway through Justice’s performance at the Friday, August 25, concert wrapping up the second day of the Great American Trucking Show, Pomeroy was joined by three others who lost family members in the shooting — Gail Uhlig, Michelle Shields and Sheri Kay.

“The most important thing we learned is you have to have a faith before a tragedy happens,” Pomeroy told attendees of how she and fellow church members have pulled through after the killings.

“Now is the time” to prepare for the future, she added.

“The trucking industry has a big heart,” Justice noted, presenting the check “on behalf of truck drivers all across America,” who donated via a Facebook fund-raiser Justice and the group conducted beginning late last fall.
