Fire closes Central Alabama Flying J location
The blaze is said to have caused heavy damage to the Pilot Flying J location in McCalla, Alabama. Media reports say firefighters from nearby Bessemer responded to the blaze at about 2 a.m. PFJ says no one was injured in the fire, and the location will remain closed while it is rebuilt.

Alabama lawmakers lower intrastate driving age from 21 to 18
Before the passing of the bill, Alabama was one of only two states (the other being Hawaii) to require drivers to be 21 to obtain a commercial driver’s license to drive intrastate. Truckers under the age of 21 will still be restricted from hauling hazmat and/or oversized loads.

Green flag drops on 2019 Bandit truck racing series this weekend
The events at Mobile International Speedway in Mobile, Alabama, will begin with the Fan Series Truck Show at 11 a.m. Gates at the track will open at 3 p.m., followed by a driver meet-and-greet at 5 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.

Fuel taxes set to increase in Alabama, Arkansas
Alabama’s first fuel tax increase will take effect on Aug. 31 this year with a 6 cents-per-gallon increase. It will also increase by 2 cents on Oct. 1, 2020 and on Oct. 1, 2021. Arkansas’ 6-cent fuel tax increase will take effect Oct. 1 this year.

After installing dual-view cameras in their trucks, reps of the Madison, Ala., location of the Danella construction company were greeted early one morning with what was clearly a break-in at the yard — the thief, soon caught, was recorded in these videos driving away, among other footage, a gold mine for police.

Truck driver Phillip Clayton, from Scottsboro, Alabama, grew up listening to Red Simpson’s trucking songs while riding around with his father. When he was offered the opportunity to design a 2005 Peterbilt 379 for Priority Transportation, who he drives for, Clayton jumped at the chance to do a tribute to Simpson.
