Starsky retrofitted Volvo truck completes 10 miles ‘unmanned’ on public road
Earlier this month, along the Florida Turnpike near Yeehaw Junction, a Volvo VNL retrofitted with autonomous driving capabilities by upstart Starsky Robotics became the first rig to drive a completely unmanned run at highway speeds on a public road alongside traffic.

A remote driver more than 100 miles from small country road near the Town of Clewiston in Hendry County, Fla. placed the bobtail tractor in drive, centered the truck in its lane and then put the truck in full autonomous mode for a seven mile unmanned jaunt at highway speed.

Daimler’s road-ready autonomous truck takes on the Autobahn
Late last week, Daimler Trucks launched its autonomous vehicle control system, Highway Pilot, in Europe on a section of autobahn highway between Denkendorf and Stuttgart. Here’s video of the truck on Germany’s famed highway systme.

Truck platooning system with autonomous braking, cruise showcased at Detroit show
The system, which is based on features like adaptive cruise control and autonomous braking, was developed in a three-company partnership that includes Meritor Wabco, Peloton and Denso. It’s touted by the companies as one that can save fuel economy and increase fleet efficiency.
