OOIDA Board Member and small fleet owner Monte Wiederhold, at least, feels that if the small-fleet (10 or fewer trucks) exemption bill were to make it out of committee, through the House, through the Senate and to the President, “he’d sign it.”

FMCSA issuing brief ELD waiver to short-term rental trucks, exempts motion picture haulers
The U.S. DOT has announced it won’t start requiring the use of electronic logging devices for short-term rental trucks, defined as 30 days or less, until March 18. Also, 6,500 drivers who haul equipment for TV and movie productions will be exempt from the ELD mandate for at least five years.

As cow haulers applaud ELD exemption in DOT funding bill, legislation advances
A bill that would exempt carriers from state laws requiring paid meal and rest breaks for drivers and, at least short term, exempt livestock haulers from compliance with the federal electronic logging device has been passed by the House Appropriations Committee’s transportation subcommittee.
