Study finds improving worst bottlenecks would save millions in fuel, reduce emissions
Previous research by the group found that 89 percent of the industry’s congestion costs stem from just 12 percent of interstate highway miles. The new study, part of ATRI’s “Fixing the 12%” research initiative, focuses on how reducing congestion on those miles could cut costs for trucking companies.

I-85 lanes closed indefinitely in Atlanta, causing major traffic disruptions
All lanes of I-85 north and south are closed indefinitely from the downtown connector to Georgia Highway 400. While most trucks are required to use I-285 to go around the city, the closure of one of the main thoroughfares out of Atlanta will cause backups on other routes.

A small airplane crashed on I-285 in northeast Atlanta Friday morning. Trucker Gerald Smith, nearly hit by the plane, tells his story. As of 4 p.m. CDT, all lanes had reopened.
