600 drivers need new medical certs after arrest of Georgia-based examiner
More than 600 truck operators have been told they need to renew their DOT medical certifications after the arrest of a Georgia-based medical examiner. Tonya Yawn-Lewis of Helena, Ga., was recently arrested by DOT investigators for allegedly issuing bogus medical certifications.

OOIDA accuses FMCSA of sidestepping rule process with sleep apnea provision, files legal challenge
OOIDA filed its legal challenge Nov. 11, seeking to vacate the rule either in part or in whole. OOIDA says the final rule, which required procedural changes for medical examiners, included an appendix not found in the agency’s 2014 proposal that could subject some truckers to sleep apnea screening.

FMCSA-approved med examiners coming to truck stops nationwide, group announces
The newly formed Truck Stop Health Care announced Sept. 23 it will be placing certified medical examiners in truck stops in every U.S. state. TSHC says the move will help drivers more easily access DOT-certified medical examiners to perform the federally required bi-yearly physical.
