Truck availability rose on spot market last week, moderating rates even as reefer/van volumes increased
The post-Easter lull in reefer volumes didn’t last long. Load counts were up 15 percent last, close to where they were at the close of the first quarter. Produce is moving out of Southern California and Central Florida, but we’re just getting started.

Spot market extremely tight, favoring truckers, ahead of Christmas week
A lot of truckers took time off last week ahead of Christmas, which meant there were already fewer trucks on the road. It was also the first week under the electronic logging device mandate, and the combination of the upcoming holiday and new regulations pushed the national load-to-truck ratio for vans up higher than it’s ever been – 10.1 loads per truck.

A somewhat lackluster week on the spot market saw van and reefer volume increase slightly, but rates were more or less unchanged as a national average. Flatbed volume and rates considered broadly continued to drift down, but Savannah-Charlotte was a hot round trip.
