Learning from the mistakes of others, with owner-op Bill Ater from last weekâs early-Spring blizzard
In this weekâs edition of the Overdrive Radio podcast we drop into the scene at The Junction truck stop in Blunt, S.D., round about mid-week last week just ahead of the blizzard. Owner-operator Ater and a fellow hauler on a run from Midland, Texas, up to the Williston, N.D., oil fields, ended up spending three nights there, leaving with a new appreciation for the place and its generous manager.

Winter storm prompts speed restrictions on Pennsylvania Turnpike
Speeds on the Turnpike are now reduced to 45 mph from the Donegal Interchange (exit 91) to the Valley Forge Interchange (exit 326). The 45 mph restriction is also in place for all of I-276, I-95 to the Delaware River Bridge, and all of I-476.

Flooding in Oklahoma prompts state to waive certain regs for relief load haulers
Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin declared a state of emergency in her state following severe thunderstorms. The order suspends the requirements for size and weights permits of oversized vehicles that are transporting materials and supplies used for storm relief. The waiver lasts 30 days.

New York has lifted all travel bans that were a result of Winter Storm Stella, which included a truck ban on interstates 81, 84, 86, 88 and the New York State Thruway.

Winter storm prompts hours suspension for certain truckers in Oklahoma
The emergency declaration was issued Thursday, Jan. 12, and is effective through Feb. 11. The declaration says direct assistance only applies to the ârestoration of essential servicesâ such as electrical, sewer, water and telecommunications, and for essential supplies such as feed, food and fuel.

Winter weather jams up major highways in southeast
A swath of winter weather across the Southeast ranging from north Texas through Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, the Carolinas and into Virginia could begin to take a toll on highway conditions Friday afternoon into Saturday. Two states have also suspended HOS regs.
