The nomination period for the Owner-Operator of the Year and Company Driver of the Year contests, each of which carry a $25,000 cash prize, is open until Nov. 6.
The owner-operator contest is produced by the Truckload Carriers Association and Overdrive. The company driver contest is produced by TCA and Truckers News. The contests are sponsored by Cummins and Love’s Travel Stops.
The contest is intended to recognize winners for their ability “to operate in a safe manner on the public highways, efforts to enhance the public image of the trucking industry, positive contributions to the community in which he/she lives,” and in the owner-operator contest, the “ability to run a successful business.”
The three finalists in each contest will receive a trip to TCA’s annual meeting March 26-29 in Nashville, Tennessee, where the winners will be announced. Each of the four finalists will receive $2,500.
This year’s owner-operator winner was Mark Tricco, leased to Bison Transport in Canada.
Affected tractors are equipped with an automated Eaton UltraShift Plus or Eaton Advantage Transmission with right hand stalk shifter. In the affected trucks, the display on the instrument panel can indicate “N” when the shifter is set into “D” or “R,” causing the truck not to move.
