TransComply and Iron Apple have entered an agreement to provide compliance training for truckers and brokers to comply with new food hauling regulations.

TransComply manages the Uniform Food Safety Transportation Protocol, and Iron Apple provides food safety compliance training for carriers. The two companies are teaming up to help carriers comply with the Food and Drug Administration’s Food Safety Modernization Act.

Under the agreement, the companies will consult on the development of new services for carriers regarding the transport of perishable food, and the UFSTP program will inform program applicants of Iron Apple’s compliance offerings related to training, record keeping, equipment management, trailer cleanliness and temperature control. More on Iron Apple’s program can be seen here.

Likewise, Iron Apple will inform and promote the USFTP, a privately managed registry of carriers that have committed to complying with the rule.

While the new law, which went into effect April 6, exempts carriers that make less than $500,000 in annual revenue, many shippers still require all carriers to meet the new standards. The main requirements for carriers under the new law include having adequate equipment for food transportation, keeping the food at the correct temperature, preventing contamination of ready to eat food from touching raw food, training and record-keeping.
