United driver earns distinction

Sherryll Byrd, a company driver for United Van Lines, has been named Trucker Buddy of the Month for November. Carole Sylvester and her second-grade class at Oak Grove School, of Ojai, Calif., nominated Byrd for the honor. For the past five years, Byrd has sent postcards to the class each week from a location he is driving through. Byrd also helps teach the class about the trucking industry as part of the curriculum in Sylvester’s class (jobs in the community). Byrd has also visited the class with his wife Jackie, during which students were able to ask questions and tour his truck.
