Ben Ickert of Amboy, Wash., hauls logs throughout the state with his nearly 30-year-old Mack Superliner. Ickert, of Amboy bought the truck three years ago and says he’s had to put $50,000 into restoration work to “make [it] as safe and roadworthy as today’s trucks.” Last fall, Ickert completely repainted the truck and gave it stripes. Despite its age, “I work it every day,” he says.
Affected tractors are equipped with an automated Eaton UltraShift Plus or Eaton Advantage Transmission with right hand stalk shifter. In the affected trucks, the display on the instrument panel can indicate “N” when the shifter is set into “D” or “R,” causing the truck not to move.
