Video: Making the transition to owner-operator

| June 15, 2017

The expanded freedom and earning potential of running as an owner-operator come with a big tradeoff: greater self-discipline and more demanding money management.

From the perspective of a company driver, or even someone who’s yet to earn a CDL, the prospect of owning your own truck seems like a big step. It is.

For almost two decades, Overdrive has produced its Partners in Business program to address the preparation required to be an owner-operator and the best practices to stay in business and prosper. The program consists of a manual and truck show seminars, sponsored this year by truckstop.com and Ryder.

The new 2018 manual will be distributed during the free seminars at Great American Trucking Show in Dallas, Aug. 24-26. Can’t wait till then? You can buy the current manual at the eTrucker.com store.

Two of the seminars will be presented Aug. 25 by ATBS, the nation’s largest owner-operator financial services provider and co-author of the manual. Two others will be led by Kevin Rutherford, long-time PIB presenter and popular trucking radio host, on Aug. 26.

The following video, “Becoming an owner-operator,” is taken from the manual’s opening chapters. It’s narrated by Truckers News Editor David Hollis:
