Western Star presented the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association last week with a new 5700 XE to pull its Spirit of the American Trucker display trailer to shows and other events. The presentation was made July 10 at the Walcott Truckers Jamboree at the I80 Truck Stop in Walcott, Iowa.

The 5700 XE replaces the 2014 Western Star OOIDA uses to pull its display.

Guy Lemieux, marketing segment manager of Western Star, said the 5700 XE is Western Star’s new model with a focus on aerodynamic design. Depending on what its pulling, Lemieux said the 5700 XE could get “in the high eights” miles per gallon on the highway.

The 5700 XE has:

  • Detroit DD13, DD14 or DD15 engine
  • Detroit DT12 automated manual transmission (a selection of Eaton manual transmissions are optional)
  • 68” sleeper with an aero package
  • Enhanced stability control
  • Roll stability control
  • Lane departure warning system
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Wabco OnGuard collision avoidance/mitigation System

Lemieux said Western Star’s goal in designing the 5700XE was to “develop a truck that doesn’t look like everything else on the road.”

The 5700XE will be produced at Western Star’s Cleveland, N.C. plant.
