Arizona reopens 4 rest areas

The Arizona Department of Transportation has reopened four rest areas closed a year ago because of the state’s budget problems.

Rest areas at Bouse Wash (Interstate 10), Hassayampa (U.S. 60), Haviland (I-40) and McGuireville (I-17) are open. The total number of operational rest areas across the state is 14. ADOT reopened five rest areas this past summer.

Four additional rest areas – Mazatzal (S.R. 87), Mohawk (I-8), Parks (I-40) and Salt River Canyon (U.S. 60) – remain closed due to serious repair issues.

Rest areas were temporarily closed last October because of the state’s budget crisis and declines in transportation revenues.
