The Arizona Trucking Association’s Arizona Transportation Education Foundation works to educate teens and other drivers on how to safely drive around trucks.The Arizona Trucking Association and its educational non-profit subsidiary, the Arizona Transportation Education Foundation (ATEF), are using grant money from the state to help educate teenage drivers and the motoring public about how to drive safely around trucks.
Through a $20,000 grant for fiscal year 2017 from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, ATEF has been able to continue its “Share the Road” and “Teens and Trucks” programs, while also continuing use of its “Share the Road” trailer, which features graphics to inform people to “Stay Out of the No-Zone” around trucks.
The goal of the ATEF is to educate all highway drivers, including passenger car drivers, motorcyclists and truckers, on sharing the road to reduce truck-involved crashes; expand public awareness of sharing the highways with trucks with oversized loads; and reach out to young drivers, senior citizens and others to educate them on how their driving actions around trucks can create unsafe traffic conditions.
“Through education and working together, we can continue to reduce truck-involved crashes on Arizona’s roads,” says ATEF Executive Director Tony Bradley. “And the more people we can educate about safe driving around large trucks, the safer our roads will be for all drivers.”
