Audiobook Reviews: Words on war
The D-Day Tapes – by Aaron Elson
Aaron Elson, son of a World War II veteran, decided after his father’s death in 1980 to locate members of his father’s unit, the 712th Tank Battalion, and began taping his interviews with the veterans who served alongside his father. Elson developed a passion for recording such oral history, and three years ago, he began editing his interviews with veterans into CD collections focused on events from World War II. The D-Day Tapes is a collection of seven interviews on 11 CDs in which veterans describe the “Longest Day” and many long days before and after June 6, 1944. At his website, www.audiomurphy.com, Elson also offers collections of interviews with World War II veterans on air battles, being prisoners of war, the Battle of the Bulge and more.
