Genre: Murder mystery

Plot: When a rap star is killed in New York, New York Assistant D.A. Butch Karp has no idea that the case will lead him halfway across the United States to Taos, N.M., where his wife and daughter are, and that the connection will be the Catholic Church. Everyone has secrets, and no one wants them told.

What was your favorite moment? When Andrew Kane realizes he must go to Taos to find answers and knows he will see his family.

Which character was your favorite? Marlene Ciampi, Butch Karp’s wife, because she tries so hard to help everyone and make life better for all.

Did the book have a message or a theme that stood out to you? We all have secrets, and sometimes we need to share them before we can heal ourselves or anyone else.

What did you like or dislike? I like the way all the storylines come together. They flow from one to the next and never lose you or make you wonder where that came from.

Would you recommend?: Yes, it keeps you interested till the very end and guessing all the way. There are cliffhanging moments all the way through the story.

Narrator’s style: Lee Sellars is a very smooth reader. He does need to work on the female voices some, but overall very good.

How would you grade the book? A

Genre: Suspense/thriller

Plot: Kevin Parson, a seminary student, becomes the target of a man named Slater. Kevin gets a call on his cell phone, and the caller tells him he has three minutes to confess his sin or his car is going to be blown up. He doesn’t know what the caller wants to hear, so he rushes to get the car out of traffic. He barely makes it and gets out himself before the car explodes. Then another call, another three minutes to confess. Then Jennifer, an FBI agent, comes to help. She has been working trying to catch Slater.

What was your favorite moment? When he barely gets the car and himself out of the heavy traffic.

Which character was your favorite? I like Jennifer. She is a strong and smart person. I also like Kevin. He is a nice person and doesn’t deserve what is happening to him.

What did you like or dislike? I liked the suspense.

Would you recommend?: Yes, it’s a good book.

Narrator’s style: Rob Lamont’s style is great. He knows just when to inject suspense.

How would you grade the book? B+

The Good Guys – Bill Bonanno and Joe Pistone

At Columbia University, a professor of Russian literature has gone missing. A few miles and light-years away, Little Eddie LaRocca and Bobby San Filippo are on the move – sent by the capo of the Freemont Ave. crew to find him. But when they discover that a team of FBI agents are also searching for the professor, they realize there’s more going on than what they’ve been told.

Beautiful FBI agent Laura Russo is making her preppy partner’s head spin. She knows the missing man is important – and somehow connected to a recent mob hit. While Eddie and Bobby are fighting their way through ugly deeds and pretty coeds, these feds will cook up some business of their own, turning a little disagreement among criminals into an all-out war.

Bonanno is a former head of a Mafia crime family, and Pistone is an ex-FBI agent.
