Plot: When bank robber Doug MacRay hits the bank where Claire Keesey is the branch manager, Doug can’t get her out of his mind. But the rest of the crew wants to move on to the next job. When Doug meets Claire again without his mask, he thinks maybe there’s a chance to have a new life without crime. But then there is that one more job. Will he make it out clean or not?

What was your favorite moment/scene in the book? When Doug meets Claire in the laundromat, he knows who she is, but she has no idea who he is.

Which character was your favorite? Why? Claire, because she went through so much and can still smile.

Did the book have a message or a theme that stood out to you? People change if given the chance, but they must have help.

What did you like about the book? Dislike? I disliked that so many people get away with stuff and never get caught.

Would you recommend?: Yes, it keeps you wanting more right up to the end.

Narrator’s style: Donnie Wahlberg has a pleasant voice but needs to work on volume. It fades away in some places.

Plot: This book is the story of a small part of the U.S. Navy fighting against the Japanese navy near the Philippine Islands in 1944. The battle at Leyte Gulf looked like a sure disaster for the U.S. but rather had a surprise ending.

What was your favorite moment/scene in the book? The description of the United States’ small destroyer escort ships battling against much larger Japanese battleships.

Which character was your favorite? Why? There were too many really brave officers to choose one.

Did the book have a message or a theme that stood out to you? The bravery and perseverance of many officers and enlisted sailors to choose danger in their response to attempt to defeat the Japanese.
