Averitt joins flood, storm relief

Averitt Express donated $50,000 to help victims hit recently by floods and tornados in Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee, the Cookeville, Tenn.-based carrier said. The American Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund will use the funds to give food and shelter to those forced to flee homes during the weather emergencies, said Averitt spokesman Chris Asberry.

Additionally, the carrier transported its staff’s donations of bottled water and cleaning supplies in one of its tractor-trailers to a Murfreesboro, Tenn., Salvation Army warehouse for distribution.
