The average weekly retail on-highway diesel price climbed for the second consecutive week, this time rising 1.7 cents to $2.960 for the week ending Sept. 20, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.
The price, which has climbed 2.9 cents since Sept. 6, is 33.8 cents higher than the same week last year.
All regions tracked by DOE recorded price increases. The biggest increase, 2.4 cents, was found in the Midwest, where prices climbed to $2.944. The smallest increase, 0.3 cent, was found on the Gulf Coast, where prices rose to $2.890, the nation’s lowest price by region.
The nation’s highest price by region, $3.120, was found on the West Coast, where prices climbed 1.9 cents. California, which DOE tracks separately for its weekly update, saw a price increase of 0.8 cent to $3.150; that price is 32.3 cents higher than the same week last year.
