Freightliner, Kenworth top J.D. Power study

The J.D. Power and Associates’ 2012 Customer Satisfaction Study found Freightliner as the highest ranking heavy-duty truck manufacturer, followed by Volvo in second, and Peterbilt in third place in both the on-highway and vocational segments of the study. Kenworth boasts the highest ranking manufacturer in customer satisfaction with dealer service.

The study, based on responses from 1,725 primary maintainers of one-model-year-old trucks, was done in April and May 2012.

Freightliner and Volvo, both international manufacturers, earned satisfaction for engine reliability and dependability, as well as fewer engine and fuel-related problems that industry average.

The study measures satisfaction in two product segments, on-highway and vocational, and in each segment, satisfaction is determined by: cab/body, cost of operation, engine, ride/handling/braking, transmission, and warranty.
