Coast Guard vet, driver trainer named Highway Angel

Updated Sep 13, 2012

FedEx Freight driver Kenny Cass, of Portland, Ore., has been named a Truckload Carriers Association Highway Angel for his help at the scene of an accident on a Portland road. Cass witnessed a pick-up truck rear-end a tractor trailer, and become wedged up to its windshield under the truck. Cass called 911, park his truck and signal to other drivers to warn them of the accident. He located the reflective triangles on the wrecked truck and put them out to warn oncoming traffic as well. Cass then pulled the driver of the pick-up and the tractor trailer to safety and waited until paramedics arrived. Cass, a 24-year Coast Guard veteran and driving trainer, has also received a FedEx 2012 Humanitarian Award for his actions.
