Diesel price surges

Fuelstop OdFor a second straight week, the national average retail price of diesel increased the week ended Sept. 5, gaining 4.8 cents to $3.868 a gallon, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration.

Average prices started heading toward $4 a gallon. Prices surged in California – up 10 cents to $4.058 – and on the West Coast, up 7.3 cents to $3.981.

With the latest price rise, the national average price is 93.7 cents higher than a year ago. The record diesel price was $4.764 in July 2008.
