Jason Levreault of Gimli, Manitoba, Canada, has been named the latest Highway Angel by the Truckload Carriers Association.

Levreault is a driver for Bison Transport out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and is being recognized for helping a fellow truck driver after he witnessed a serious accident.

In the early morning hours of Feb. 17, 2015, Levreault was heading east of Whitewood, Saskatchewan, when he witnessed an accident in front of him. After the dust cleared, he discovered a tractor trailer had hit another tractor trailer that was parked on the side of the highway and had come to rest across the median.

Levreault first called 9-1-1, then checked on the first driver, who seemed to be fine. He then ran to the other truck and saw that its engine was separated from the cab and had significant damage.

“I yelled to see if everyone was okay and was relieved when I heard the driver yell back,” Levreault said.

The driver was conscious, but had cuts on his head and hands.

“I told the driver that help was on the way, and I started delegating jobs to keep everyone else who was involved busy so they wouldn’t think about what had just happened.”

Levreault stayed with the injured driver until help arrived.

Because of the cold temperatures, Levreault ended up with frostbite on his right hand after touching the truck while helping the injured driver. He credits the training he received from a first aid class and an airport security job for helping him think and act quickly.

For helping at the scene of the accident, TCA has presented Levreault with a certificate, patch, lapel pin, and truck decal. Bison Transport also received a certificate acknowledging that one of its drivers is a Highway Angel.
