Flatbed carrier awards bonuses

Builders Transportation Co. distributed nearly $84,000 to 16 drivers following the first quarter of this year, the flatbed carrier announced. Drivers who run 30,000 miles or produce $40,000 in freight revenue qualify for quarterly bonuses at the family-owned company based in Memphis, Tenn.

To qualify for the bonus, drivers must have had no preventable accidents, poor inspection reports, log violations or tickets, said Jerry Gowan, the carrier’s human resources director. Also, there can have been no driver-related service failures, fuel mileage must average 6.5 mpg or greater and idle time must average 40 percent or less, Gowan said.

Launched in 1954, the carrier now owns about 500 tractors and transports steel, wire, aluminum, cast iron products and other building materials in the Midwest, South and Southeast.
