Flooding closes I-29 in Iowa

All lanes of Interstate 29 in Iowa between mile marker 61 near Crescent and the I-680/I-29 interchange at mile marker 71 near Loveland have been closed due to flooding from the nearby Missouri River, the Iowa Department of Transportation said, and may not be reopened until August.

“The Corps of Engineers has said the water levels are expected to remain at peak levels through at least August,” said department spokeswoman Dena Gray-Fisher in an email.

A 40-mile detour around the 10-mile stretch north of Council Bluffs runs over I-80 and I-680.
