Owner-operator Linda Caffee shares a laugh with Administrator Ferro.

The owner-operators of the Trucking Solutions Group and other participants walked 1.5 miles to boost health awareness today at 2 p.m. at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville. Following word that came in late Thursday from Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration head Anne Ferro that she would walk with the group, large numbers of drivers came out to join.

Nearing its end, Ferro said she was heartened by the experience. “It’s great to see drivers banding together on this to benefit health” directly, she said, as well as raise awareness about its importance.

Also walking with drivers was TravelCenters of America CEO Tom O’Brien — TA Petro was a primary sponsor of the event.

I hope she can realize that our truckers need time to get out and walk and not be pushed so hard to drive within their allocated hours. It would be much safer to split the driving time up. If most drivers get 7 to 8 hours of sleep they are good to go. If they could split the rest of their off time up so they could relax every couple of hours there would be much less stress on their bodies.

Walk???? She needs to spend a week on the road without staff, without media in tow. Live , eat, breath, sleep, drive, deal with shippers, then I’ll have a little respect for what she has to say afterwards………
