FMCSA shuts down another small carrier following investigation revealing widespread violations

A small Colorado-based fleet has become the latest to be shut down by federal regulators, following a compliance investigation that revealed disregard for key safety regulations, FMCSA announced this week.

Sorbon Transport of Aurora, Colorado, failed to properly inspect and maintain its equipment, did not ensure drivers complied with hours-of-service rules and did not comply with drug testing rules, FMCSA says.

The agency launched an investigation into the carrier after roadside inspectors found eight separate out-of-service violations and six other maintenance-related violations during an inspection earlier this month.

Several days later, a different Sorbon truck in a roadside inspection was found to have two out-of-service violations and 12 other maintenance-related violations.

In its investigation, FMCSA says Sorbon could not provide proper duty status records, and the records it did have showed hours-of-service violations.

The carrier also could not provide investigators with records of drug and alcohol tests.

The imminent hazard out-of-service order for Sorbon was announced Feb. 18.
