The recent Sandra Bullock movie Premonition is about a time traveler trying to prevent her husband’s death in a spectacular tanker wreck. At the wheel for the stunt was veteran truck racer Mike Ryan, who calls this the first controlled full 90-degree jackknife to a tractor’s right side. Ryan is right to be proud, but the scene is unlikely to win truckers any new fans among four-wheelers.

Least safe, she found, were narrow residential streets. McGaha interns this summer in Honolulu, where she hopes to work on tsunami evacuation routes.
