National diesel price surges 4.9 cents

After being unchanged last week, the average weekly retail on-highway diesel price jumped 4.9 cents this week, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

The national average price of $3.111 is the highest price in six months. The week of May 10, the price was $3.127, based on DOE figures.

Prices at all regions tracked by DOE increased sharply, led by the Rocky Mountain region’s increase of 5.8 cents to $3.199. The Midwest gained 5.3 cents to $3.102, while the East Coast climbed 5.1 cents to $3.114. California stayed the most expensive, increasing 4.2 cents to $3.279. All regions are above $3 a gallon.
