WARD SWITCHES TO PRACTICAL MILES
Ward Truckload Express now pays drivers by practical miles rather than short miles, resulting in an average raise of about $3,000 per year.

The company also has increased pay for drivers with four years of experience from 36 cents per mile to 37 cents per mile. Drivers with five years of experience or more have been bumped to 38 cents per mile. Starting drivers are paid 35 cents per mile.


KNIGHT OPENS OKLAHOMA TERMINAL
Knight Transportation has opened its 30th service center, located in Tulsa, Okla. The sixth location the Phoenix-based carrier has opened this year, the new facility provides dry van services.


A&R OPENS S.C. FACILITY
A&R Transport, a specialized transporter of bulk plastics, has opened a new terminal and 75,000-square-foot secured warehouse in Charleston, S.C. The terminal features transfer equipment services to bulk truck or rail cars.

CENTRAL HAULING CO. owner-operator Artemus Collins recently won a Freightliner FLD for recruiting the most new leased drivers
in six months.

MAVERICK TRANSPORTATION honored its Drivers of the Month for the first quarter of 2006: Elliott Blansett of Bristow, Okla., January; Aaron Toney of Uniontown, Ky., February; and Chuck Helms of Ironton, Mo., March.

DECKER TRUCK LINE named its April Drivers of the Month: Ray Pressler of Eagle Grove, Iowa, flatbed; Bahne Struecker of Algona, Iowa, reefer/van.
