C.R. ENGLAND INCREASES PAY
Based on a new pay scale, C.R. England company drivers now earn up to 50 cents per mile and owner-operators earn up to $1.50 per mile.
The average starting salary for new C.R. England drivers is $36,000, but trainers and owner-operators can make more than $100,000 annually. The company also has a fuel program for owner-operators that limits the cost of diesel to $1.25 per gallon.
NEW TERMINAL
Interstate Distributor’s new terminal in Little Rock, Ark., is just off I-440. The facility includes full maintenance and fuel services, a laundry room, a drivers’ lounge, showers and an operations department.
EPES RAISES PAY
Epes Transport System has increased top company driver pay to 42 cents per mile and owner-operator pay to 90 cents per mile, loaded and empty, plus a fuel surcharge.
Epes also announced a new 50-truck dedicated team operation with pay of up to 54 cents per mile for company drivers and $1.15 per mile for owner-operators.
SCHNEIDER HONORED FOR SIMULATION TRAINING
Schneider National received an Excellence in Practice Award from the American Society for Training and Development for its simulation-based driver training program.
Since Schneider began using the simulators in 2004, it has lowered new driver dropout and termination rates nearly 10 percent and cut accident frequency and severity by 20 percent.
FALCON TRANSPORT INCREASES PAY
Falcon Transport’s new starting pay for non-dedicated van drivers is 30 cents per mile. The starting pay for general commodities van drivers increased to 31 cents per mile.
Falcon also now offers free health care premiums for company drivers, with options to buy additional dental, vision and disability coverage.
HIRSCHBACH RAISING PAY IN TWO CYCLES
Hirschbach Motor Lines is raising pay by 2 cents per mile for company drivers, owner-operators and lease operators. The first 1-cent increase took effect Aug. 24; the second begins Dec. 7.
OLD DOMINION OPENS LOUISIANA FACILITY
Old Dominion Freight Line’s new service center in Shreveport, La. serves northwest Louisiana and northeast Texas. Old Dominion plans to add as many as 22 service centers this year.
At the end of 2005, the Thomasville, N.C., company had 170 service centers in 37 states.
