Forward air expands ohio hub
Forward Air has doubled its footprint in Columbus, Ohio, with the completion of its $5 million hub.
The Greeneville, Tenn., carrier has 81 terminals in the United States and Canada, but its less-than-truckload air shipment operation long has been based at Rickenbacker International Airport near Columbus.
The new 125,000-square-foot facility has 168 trailer doors capable of unloading, sorting and loading 3.7 million pounds in five hours. A second Forward Air warehouse at the airport handles local freight and key accounts.
HEARTLAND EXPRESS ANNOUNCES PAY RAISES
Heartland Express increased pay for drivers with hazmat endorsements by a penny per mile for all dispatched miles, hazardous or not.
The Coralville, Iowa, company also is increasing its over-the-road pay by 4 cents, making its top driver pay 50 cents per mile.
CT TRANSPORTATION OPENS TERMINAL
CT Transportation opened a new terminal in Louisville, Ala., adding more than 50 office, driver and mechanic positions. The Savannah, Ga., flatbed carrier joined Comcar Industries in 1986 and now serves the Eastern United States from 10 terminals.
CON-WAY FREIGHT RECEIVES 3 AWARDS
Three state trucking associations each recognized Con-way Freight’s safety record with Great West Safety Awards.
Con-way Freight received the Iowa Motor Trucking Association’s award in the category for over 10 million miles. The Nebraska Trucking Association honored Con-way Freight for having a safety rating significantly better than the state’s average fleet rating. South Dakota awarded the company for an outstanding safety record in the category of 1.8 to 2 million miles.
TRI-STATE OPENS 24-HOUR R&R CENTER
Tri-State Expedited Service has opened a 12,000-square-foot R&R convenience center for its owner-operators and drivers at its Perrysburg, Ohio, headquarters. The facility is open 24/7.
It features a lounge with a 50-inch plasma screen, a full self-service kitchen with dining areas and a self-serve laundry with large-capacity washers and dryers. Three truck bays also are available for such services as safety inspections and equipment installations.
