Rusty and Shari Ann Fry, owner-operators leased to Landstar, have been nominated to become Outstanding Trucker Buddies through the Trucker Buddy program.

Jeffery Walker, faculty leader and first-grade teacher oat Verner Elementary School in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and his class nominated the couple.

“We have been buddies for 6 years,” Walker said. “Rusty and Shari Ann take us along on many of their travels via pictures.  We’ve been able to see some really cool stuff. My classroom will send emails to them asking questions about their truck, their life on the road, places they’ve seen, etc. A year ago we discovered FaceTime. So, now my kids get to see and talk to our buddies live. Rusty and Shari Ann stay connected with me and what’s going on with my students. One of my students was diagnosed with cancer years ago. Rusty and Shari Ann connected with his parents and offered prayers for his healing. They also rallied some of their trucker friends to pray for him as well. Because of the cargo they often transport, they could not visit our school. However, my student who has cancer wanted to see the truck. As they were traveling through our area they called his mom and they were able to meet at a truck stop. This student still talks about that experience today.”
