Everything’s Eventual: 5 Dark Tales is one of Stephen King’s best yet. It is a book of stories that will have your hair standing on end.
“Everything’s Eventual” is about a young man, Dinky, who is offered a job that seems too good to be true, and of course it is. Dinky has hidden powers he is only just beginning to understand. Be careful when you open your e-mail. It just might be from Dinky Ernshaw and you don’t want to receive anything from him.
“Autopsy Room Four” is about 43-year-old Howard Correll. The last thing Howard remembers is looking for his golf ball in some woods. He awakens in a catatonic state being wheeled into the autopsy room. He can hear everything and see whatever comes into his line of vision but he can’t move. This story describes the terror he feels as he waits for the autopsy to begin.
The “Little Sisters of Eluria” is about a gunslinger named Roland who rides into a town and finds it empty. He wonders where everyone has gone. He is attacked by a group of beings he refers to as the green people. The Little Sisters of Eluria save him and nurse him back to health. But what are they really saving him for? What are their plans for Roland? He escapes only to run into the big sister, the one who is feared the most.
“Luckey Quarter” is a great story. It’s about a casino chambermaid who gets a tip from a patron, and it’s only a quarter. She is mad about the tip until she realizes it’s a lucky quarter. She plans to use the quarter to make enough money to get her kids the things they really need.
In “The Road Virus Heads North” a horror writer stops at a yard sale and finds a painting he is obsessed with. He buys the painting and by the time he reaches his destination, he is wishing he’d passed up the yard sale completely. The painting keeps changing every time he looks at it. He finds out that the artist had killed himself and he later discovers that the woman who sold him the picture is found dead. Be careful when you stop at a yard sale. You might wind up with a picture like the one from “The Road Virus Heads North.”
This is one of the best books I’ve listened to in a long time. The narrators in this book were each perfect for the story they read. I would recommend this book to everyone. A+
