Driver John O’Keefe won Best of Show at the 2012 Shell Rotella SuperRigs competition held May 17-19 in at the Joplin Speedco in Joplin, Mo., with his 2007 Peterbilt 379 Legacy. The truck, called “Low Life,” also captured first place in the Best Interior, Best Theme, Best Chrome, Best Lights and Best Engine categories.
Paul Rissler of California, Mo., won Best of Show, first runner-up and $4,000 with his 1996 Peterbilt 379, and TJ Timblin of West Bend, Wis., was awarded Best of Show, second runner-up and $2,500 for his 2005 Kenworth 900L.
Owner-operators from across the United States and Canada competed for cash and prizes valued at approximately $25,000. Additionally, 12 drivers were selected to have their trucks featured in the 2013 Shell Rotella SuperRigs calendar (see list below).
The event also helped raise $100,000 for All Roads Lead to Joplin, a group developed to help raise funds to benefit the YMCA of Joplin’s community disaster recovery efforts following a devastating tornado in May 2011.
In addition, Todd and Beth Roccapriore – owners of Best of Show winner Low Life – immediately donated their $10,000 winnings to the YMCA of Joplin.
First place winners also included Wayne Vogt or Hesston, Kan., in the Tractor/Trailer Division; Pat Eilen of Hampton, Minn. in the Tractor Division; Travis Headley of Lebanon, Mo., in the Classic Division. The 2012 Peterbilt 389 of Shane Price of Lebo, Kan., won the People’s Choice Award which is voted on throughout the event by all contestants and spectators.
Ronald Millsap of Statesville, N.C., won the Hardworking Award, which recognizes one driver for how hard he or she works in keeping the economy moving. Paul McMasters of Bristow, Okla,, won the Virtual SuperRigs award. The award recognizes the trucker that receiveds the most votes on the Virtual SuperRigs site.
