Navistar has been granted a waiver to allow its advanced driver-assistance systems to be mounted lower on the windshield than current regs allow. AMBEST nearly doubled its annual donation to the St. Christopher fund to more than $30K. Nikola’s hydrogen-electric truck made a delivery for Anheuser-Busch.

Participation in the event this year was down slightly from last year, but the makings of a successful event are well in hand. Participating owner-operators and drivers will be parked on the mall through early Saturday, followed by a convoy back for some R&R at the fairgrounds in Fredericksburg, Va.

Roadrunner announced Monday it will downsize its dry van business due to a lack of profitability in the segment and will lay off 450 workers in the process.. Michelin is increasing prices by up to 4.9% for all North American Fleet Account customers beginning Dec. 1.

Truckers Feeding the Homeless delivered to 600-plus in Dallas
“We knocked it out of the park,” says Fredrik Claxton of the group’s effort, delivering ultimately $11K worth in food, hygiene supplies and clothing to more than 600 homeless residents in need at sites in Dallas, Ft. Worth and Arlington, Texas, on Aug. 24. Next stop: Baltimore in 2020.

After last year, organizers say they’re encourage a positive atmosphere, less a protest than a tribute “that spotlights issues that affect the driver.”

Another record year for truckers’ GATS parking benefit auction for St. Christopher
Despite the recent freight slowdown in some parts of the trucking sector, owner-operators and company drivers alike dug in deep to pull out yet another record-breaking auction for the “Truckers Fund.” Between an auction, a charity dunk tank ($20 for three throws) and matching funds, total donations for the event came to nearly $21K.
