The House of Representatives passed a bill to extend the federal highway funding through the end of September.
The White House has said it would veto a transportation funding bill that cleared the House Rules Committee due to its Keystone XL pipeline mandate.
Law extends taxes funding federal highway spending through March.
The Senate approved the Federal Aviation Administration and Highway Extensions Act, or H.R. 2887, by a 92-6 vote.
The U.S. Senate is expected to vote on an extension of transportation appropriations this week after House members passed the measure.
