No parking at stop for Bike Week

Truckers can get fuel but may not park at Love’s truck stop 316 in Ormond Beach, Fla., March 8-18, during so-called Bike Week. The stop is adjacent to Daytona Harley Davidson, which has heavier than normal traffic during Bike Week. Love’s Travel Stops and Country Stores recently added nine truck tire care centers to its existing locations, the travel center says. The new tire centers are in Richmond, Ky.; Oak Creek, Wis.; DeMotte, Ind.; Skippers, Va.; Richmond Hill, Ga.; Perrysburg, Ohio; Ottawa, Kan.; Benson, Ariz.; and Grayson, Ky. Love’s has plans to add 50 tire care centers to its travel stops this year, and all new Love’s stops will be built with tire care centers onsite.

Loves opens new Fla. stop

A new Love’s Travel Stop is open in Cottondale, Fla., at exit 130 off Interstate 10. The stop has 98 truck spaces, DEF dispensers at the diesel islands, CAT scales, five showers, RFID cardless fueling technology and a Love’s Truck Tire Care center. It also includes a Chester’s Chicken and a McDonald’s restaurant. Truck drivers will receive double “I Love Rewards” loyalty points on purchases at the new location through Oct. 29.

A new index tracking sales of goods and services at highway truckstops, the McLane-NATSO quarterly index, recently tracked an interesting rise in the sale of hot beverages like coffees, cappucinos and teas at truckstops. That category of sales jumped 34 percent in 2010 compared to the previous year, suggesting to me at least a little more than freight picking up.
