Spot market activity continues up for vans, reefers, amid Roadcheck effect on demand indicators
With Roadcheck cutting some truck posts, the van load-to-truck ratio hit its highest mark in three years, and van rates on the top 100 lanes rose to some of the highest prices seen in two years. Overall, posting activity was up overall as well.

With last week’s spot market update, it looked like van rate averages on many lanes might have been near the bottom for this slow season. It’s looking that way for reefer rates now, and spot market volumes have been relatively constant in the segment.

Flatbed rates had a small rebound last week, amid seasonal declines across all segments. On the top 78 open-deck lanes, rates rose on 42 of them, while 31 declined. The other five were neutral.

With both the end of the quarter and the last few business days before a holiday weekend, last week’s boost in rates and volume, particularly in vans and reefers, wasn’t a big surprise. Still, it was a nice lift, especially after two months of improvement.
