Warren Transport’s Steven Recker was named 2009 Owner Operator of the Year in the contest sponsored by the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) and Overdrive.
The other two finalists were Woodrow Walker and Larry Severson, both leased to Dart Transit. The awards were announced March 2 at TCA’s annual meeting in Las Vegas.
In TCA’s 2009 Company Equipment Driver of the Year Contest, co-sponsored by Truckers News,
Gordon “Butch” Colvin of Con-way Truckload took the top honor. Finalists were Richard Gassman, of Greatwide Logistics Services, and Brian Rhodes, of Con-way Truckload.
Recker and Colvin each will receive cash, products and services worth $25,000. In addition, their carriers flew them to Las Vegas and paid for expenses while attending the meeting, where they were honored in front of hundreds of the industry’s leaders.
The awards recognize safety records, work histories, and community and industry involvement.
Recker has been affiliated with Warren since 1985. He has driven more than 2.8 million accident-free truckload miles. He had placed as a top 10 finalist in the contest four times. In 2006, he was selected as the Iowa Motor Truck Association’s Driver of the Year, and he also served a year on the IMTA Road Team.
