Former trucker Teri Horton (pictured) bought a $5 “splatter painting” at a California thrift store as a joke but now believes it’s the work of artist Jackson Pollock, an alcoholic genius notorious for throwing his work away. She recently told “60 Minutes” that she turned down a $2 million offer for the painting, believing it’s worth more. A 2006 documentary about Horton is titled “Who the #$&% Is Jackson Pollock?” – the title being her first words when told she might have a Pollock on her hands.

In his new memoir, novelist Robert Stone recalls being beaten by “speed-addled” truckers during a cross-country bus trip in 1964, apparently because he was bearded and dressed like a hippie. It happened in Highspire, Pa., “a town whose name I will not forget and a place I think about, though briefly, pretty much every day.”
